Frequently Asked Questions

Is it worth getting an electric fireplace?

Yes! Premium or budget electric fireplaces can transform your home whilst keeping energy costs low. They require much less maintenance than traditional wood-burning stoves, have fewer health risks and have a longer lifespan.

Choose between our range of traditional and modern electric fireplaces to find one that best suits your needs. We stock products from some of the UK’s most reputable manufacturers, including Be Modern, Flamerite and Pureglow, just to name a few.

Fires2U has something for every taste and budget: the Elgin & Hall Pryzm Vardo is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a wall-mounted fireplace suite. However, if you’re working with a smaller space and looking for a traditional cast iron feature, the Flamerite Aubade and Tennyson LED fireplace suite can sit against any flat wall and even has downlights within the surround.

Many of our electric fireplaces produce up to 2kW heat output, which will provide instant heat when you arrive home and will supplement your central heating perfectly.

Can you put a TV over an electric fireplace?

You can put a TV over an electric fireplace if the heat expels via the bottom of the unit, which many electric fireplaces do.

Before you decide on your dream suite, you must consider the current organisation of your room. TVs and fireplaces can be costly investments, so putting your TV over an electric fireplace may be unsuitable.

Most electric fireplace suites have heat vents on the bottom of the unit, not the top. These vents mimic the warmth of a flame, with some fireplaces emitting anywhere between 1.5 to 2kWs of heat.

Do electric fireplaces give off heat?

Yes, the electric fireplace suites available at Fires2U emit between 1.5-2kWs of heat.

They generate heat usually via a fan process, which happens when your electric fireplace sucks in the cool air from your room. The cold air passes through a heated metal coil and releases at a much higher temperature. As more heat fills your room, the hot air rises and creates a current that can warm up your home, guests and family.

Unlike traditional wood stoves or gas-powered units, modern electric fireplace suites do not emit dangerous gases. Burning wood releases carbon monoxide, and inhaling this can cause severe damage to the heart, lungs and brain.

However, electric fireplaces do not burn any substances to produce heat.

How much energy does an electric fireplace use?

If you want to know how much energy modern electric fireplaces use, you must consider three things: the wattage of your unit, current electricity prices and how many hours you will use it per day.

The higher the wattage, the more electricity your fireplace will use. Take the Celsi Ultiflame VR Elara fireplace suite. It is a 1600-watt fire, meaning it will use 1.6kWh of electricity for every hour you use it.

Then, you must check how much your energy provider charges you in pence per kilowatt. Estimate how frequently you will use your fire per day: this will likely change periodically, depending on the seasons and climate.

Once you have these three figures, you can calculate how much energy your electric fireplace uses:

Energy input (kW) x daily estimated run time (hours) = kWh (kilowatts per hour).

How do I maintain an electric fireplace?

Modern electric fireplaces are easy to clean: they are low maintenance and do not require as much work as traditional wood-burning fireplaces or gas stoves.

With real-flame fires, you must clean out the remnants of an old fire before burning a new one. However, with your new electric fireplace, you’ll only need to get rid of dust. Smudges and dirt may build up on your fireplace’s exterior glass, but removing this is simple.

Avoid using cleaning products with flammable ingredients: instead, stick to warm soapy water dabbed onto a cloth. Remove any fingerprints or dust and dry with a separate cloth for a sparkling clean finish.
